NOTES
a. "which was the son of God." This
refers to the ultimate source to which also the human ancestry of Jesus is
traced.
b. Pedaiah and Salathiel were
brothers. Because Zerubbabel is called son of Salathiel in Matthew and
Luke, a levirate marriage or adoption is commonly supposed, and Ezra 3:2
and 5:2 are followed. With Zerubbabel the pedigree of Christ in the Old
Testament becomes obscure and passes out.
c. Africanus in Eusebius seems to
confuse Matthat with Melchi, 72 with 74
d. There Is a remarkable reference
to Mary as the daughter of Hell in the Talmud.
e. Joseph did not "beget" Jesus. Of
whom "was born." In all other cases "begat." This is a proof of the Virgin
Birth.
f. Jesus, "being, as was supposed,
the son of Joseph," but In reality the maternal grandson of Hell.
