He's written about in the Biographical & Portrait Cyclopedia of Cambria Co unty, Pennsylvania, at page 177: The Bowman family is of German descent. Benjamin was born in Lancaster cou nty, Pennsylvania, coming to Mifflin county when a young man, where he m et and married Miss Barbara Gaff, daughter of James and Mary (Ford) Gaf f. He moved to Cambria county in 1848, locating in White township, now Rea de township, when he purchased one hundred acres of farm land, partially i mproved, where he resided until 1850, when he was killed by a runaway hors e, at the age of fifty-two years. By trade he was a plasterer. For sever al years previous to moving to Cambria county he followed boating, havi ng charge of a section boat running from Philadelphia to Pittsburg. He w as a consistent member of the Presbyterian church, and in politics a democ rat. Their marriage resulted in the birth of nine children: James J., a bl acksmith in Allemansville, Clearfield county; Sarah Ann, who died in child hood; John M., a printer of Everett, Pennsylvania, editor of the Everett R epublican; Nancy J., deceased, who was the wife of Rev. Thomas Van Scoyo c, of Mountaindale, this county; George W.; Susan Catherine, the wife of J ohn Van Scoyoc, of Reade township; Samuel M., a farmer at Mountaindale; Ja cob G., also a farmer of Mountaindale; and Mary E., wife of Benjamin F. By ers of Coalport, Clearfield county.
Benjamin married Barbara Gaff, daughter of James Gaff and Mary Ford. (Barbara Gaff was born about 1799 in Pennsylvania, died on 12 Mar 1862 in Pennsylvania and was buried in Cambria Mills Baptist Cemetery, Reade Township, Cambria County, PA.)
