He's found in the 1870 census in White Township, Cambria County, PA: VAN S COYCE, John (45); Susan (40); George (16); Walter (15); Thomas (13); Hen ry (11); Mollie (8); Nannie (5); Katie (1). John was a laborer. Everyo ne in the household was born in PA.
Other researchers show him married to an "Amanda" and there is a Thomas V an Scoyoc found in the 1880 census in Clearfield County, PA marri ed to an Amanda, with a daughter named Roby. It cannot be this Thomas V an Scoyoc, however, if his obituary is correct and he married Sarah Botwri ght in 1876.
Obituary: Thomas Judson Van Scoyoc, Tyrone, railroader and civic leader, d ied on 15 June, at home, following 5 weeks of arthritis. Son of John and C atharine (Bowman) Van Scoyoc, born in White Twp, Cambria County, 21 Oct 18 57. On 16 Sep 1876 he married Miss Sarah Botwright, who survives with t he following children: Mrs Robie Booth, Mrs Amon DeArment, Mrs Robert Char les, and Mrs Paul Price, Mrs Daniel A Subvan, Mrs William Dale, Mrs AC Dal e, Mrs Nan Waple, WC, and Frank. Interment at Grandview Cemetery, Tyrone.
Thomas married Sarah Botwright.
