Obit in Johnstown Tribune newspaper is as follows:
David J. Shaffer, a retired farmer and rural letter carrier, died yes terday morning at his home in Conemaugh Township, two and a half miles ea st of Franklin Borough, along the Clapboard Run road. Death followed an e xtended illness of a complication of ailments. Mr Shaffer was born 82 yea rs ago in Conemaugh Township, where he spent his entire life. For many years Mr. Shaffer was a carpenter and in 1903 accepted the p osition of rural letter carrier on Route No. 3, later transferring to Rou te No. 2, from which he retired in 1920. For a period of 35 years, Mr Sha ffer was a member of the Conemaugh Township School Board and also served f or some time as Auditor and Clerk. David J. Shaffer was one of a family of seven children born to Mr. a nd Mrs. John Shaffer and is the last of the number to pass away. He w as a brother of the late Mrs Elizabeth Masters, wife of Judge Joseph Maste rs; Mrs Barbara Wissinger; Mrs. Mary (Unclear); and Henry, Daniel, and Ja cob Shaffer. The John Shaffer family settled in Conemaugh Township many ye ars ago. David J. Shaffer is survived by his widow, Mrs. Martha (Custer) Shaff er, to whom he was married about 55 years ago, and the following childre n: Mrs. W.H. Ream, H.E. Shaffer, and J. H. Shaffer, Dale.; W.I. Shaffe r, 1308 Angus Avenue and Walter Shaffer; Mrs Gilbert Stormer and Ralph Sha ffer, Conemaugh Township. Three children preceded Mr. Shaffer to the gra ve - Emery Cloyd Shaffer, M.E.(or H.) Shaffer and Mrs. Wendell Myer s. Thirty six grand children and 11 great grand children survive. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon in the Mt Ho pe Evangelical Church, of which David Shaffer was a longlife member, by t he Rev. W.W. Hall of Scalp Level, a former Pastor and the Rev. R.R. Dovers pike Pastor. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The funeral par ty will leave the Shaffer home at 3 o'clock.

PA.23 (Martha Jane Custer was born on 7 Aug 1853 in Richland Twp., Cambria Co., PA, died on 17 Feb 1934 in Johnstown, Cambria Co., PA 25 and was buried in MT Hope Cem, Adams Twp, Cambria Co, PA.)
