Volume II
By Wilson T. Hogue
| Of the twenty-five preachers who composed this Conference at its organization, the following are worthy of special note, not only as charter members but also for their faithful and efficient service in building up the work: John Ellison, I. Mudge, A. V. Leonardson, M. DeVoist, C. D. Hoadley, E. Steer, W. W. Hoyt, F. J. Calkins, all of whom, with a number of others, were men of marked ability and high integrity such as would be an honor to any Conference. William Doering, E. W. Smith, L. D. Lockwood are a few among the lay delegates of the first Conference, and later Dr. Albert Yates, who several times represented his Conference in the General Conference and was also for some years a member of the Executive Committee; and D. P. Morse, a layman of sterling integrity, who was several times delegate to the General Conference and was serving on the Executive Committee at the time of his decease. Among those who are ably representing the Conference at present may be mentioned: H. Voorhess, A. J. Stevens, E. D. Hartley, A. A. York, S. H. Porterfield, several of whom have served as district elder, and the last named has been repeatedly a member of the General Conference and also of the Executive Committee and the Missionary Board.
