I) What does the word Trinity mean?
Trinity – (Greek Trias & ity) The one true
God exists as three eternal distinct ( = Not alike, Different) persons
(Father, Son, Holy Spirit) in one Godhead.
II) Is there only one God?
Deuteronomy 6:4
Hear, O Israel: The LORD
our God, the LORD is one.
Isaiah 43:10, 11
"You are my witnesses,"
declares the LORD, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may
know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was
formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the LORD, and apart
from me there is no savior.
Isaiah 44:6, 8b
"This is what the LORD
says-- Israel's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I
am the last; apart from me there is no God.
… Is there any God besides
me? No, there is no other Rock; I know not one."
1 Corinthians 8:4c
… that there is no God but
one.
III) Is the Father God?
Malachi 2:10a
Have we not all one Father
? Did not one God create us? …

one God and Father of all,
who is over all and through all and in all.
Matthew 6:9

should pray: "`Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
IV) Is Jesus God?
A) Who created the Universe??
Genesis 1:1 – God created all
In the beginning God
created the heavens and the earth.
Colossians 1:16-18 – Jesus created all
For by him all things
were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible,
whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were
created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all
things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is
the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything
he might have the supremacy.
John 1:3 – The LOGOS created all
Through him all things
were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
B) Jesus the Logos
John 1:1-3 The “Logos” Word was God
In the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with
God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him
nothing was made that has been made.
Revelation 19:13 – Jesus is the Logos -
Jesus was God
He is dressed in a robe
dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.
C) Jesus called God
1) Isaiah calls Jesus God
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself
will give you] a sign: The virgin will be with child and will
give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
Immanuel = God with
us
Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he
will be called Wonderful Counselor (Holy Spirit), Mighty God
(God), Everlasting Father (God the Father), Prince of Peace
(God The Son).
2) Thomas calls Jesus God
John 20:26-29
A week later his disciples
were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were
locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!"
Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out
your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe." Thomas
said to him, "My Lord and my God!" Then Jesus told him, "Because you
have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not
seen and yet have believed."
3) Paul calls Jesus God
Philippians 2:5-8
Your attitude should be
the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not
consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself
nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness
a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a
cross!
Philippians 2:11
… and every tongue confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord (Adoni), to the glory of God (Adoni) the Father.
Colossians 2:9
For in Christ all the
fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,
1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God
and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
1 Timothy 3:16
Beyond all question, the
mystery of godliness is great: God appeared in a body, was vindicated by
the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was
believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.
Titus 2:13
while we wait for the
blessed hope--the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus
Christ,
4) God calls Jesus God
Hebrews 1:8
But about the Son he
(GOD) says, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and
righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
5) Jesus called himself God
John 5:18
For this reason the Jews
tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath,
but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with
God.
John 8:24
I told you that you would
die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am you will indeed
die in your sins."
John 10:30-33
I and the Father are one."
Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, "I
have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do
you stone me?" "We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the
Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God."
D) Jesus is worshipped - Jesus said to worship God only, yet He
receives worship.
Matthew 4:10
Jesus said to him, "Away
from me, Satan! For it is written: `Worship the Lord your God, and serve
him only.
Matthew 2:2
and asked, "Where is the
one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and
have come to worship him."
Matthew 2:11
On coming to the
house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and
worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with
gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.
Matthew 14:33
Then those who
were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."
Matthew 28:9
Suddenly Jesus met them.
"Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped
him.
John 9:35-38
Jesus heard that
they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, "Do you believe
in the Son of Man?" "Who is he, sir?" the man asked. "Tell me so that I
may believe in him Jesus said, "You have now seen him; in fact, he is the
one speaking with you." Then the man said, "Lord, I believe," and he
worshiped him.
Hebrews 1:6
And again, when
God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels
worship him."
E) Who destroyed Sodom & Gomorrah?
Genesis 18:1-3, 17 The LORD (YHWH) appeared
to Abraham
The LORD appeared
to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the
entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. Abraham looked up and saw
three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance
of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. He said, "If I have
found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by.
Then the LORD
said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?
Genesis 19:24 God on earth rained down fire
from God in heaven
Then the LORD
(on Earth) rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah--from the
LORD out of the heavens.
V) Do Jesus & the Father share the same names?
A) Alpha & Omega, Beginning & End, First & Last
Rev 21:6-7 God is Alpha & Omega, Beginning
& End
He said to me:
"It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning
and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without
cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit
all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
Isaiah 44:6 God is First & Last
"This is what the
LORD says-- Israel's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the
last; apart from me there is no God.
Revelation 22:12-13, 16
Jesus is Alpha and
the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
"Behold, I am
coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according
to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the
Last, the Beginning and the
End.
"I, Jesus,
have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the
Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star."
B) The “I AM”
Exodus 3:14 God said his name was “I Am” YHWH
God said to
Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the
Israelites: `I AM has sent me to you.'"
Hebrew I AM = YHWH
Greek I AM = Ego Eimi
John 8:53-58 Jesus said He was the I AM
Are you greater
than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you
think you are?" Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory means
nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies
me. Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would
be a liar like you, but I do know him and keep his word. Your father
Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad."
"You are not yet fifty years old," the Jews said to him, "and you have
seen Abraham!" "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham
was born, I am!" At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but
Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.
John 18:5-8 Again Jesus calls Himself the I
AM
"Jesus of
Nazareth," they replied. "I am he," Jesus said. (And Judas the
traitor was standing there with them.) When Jesus said, "I am he," they
drew back and fell to the ground. Again he asked them, "Who is it you
want?" And they said, "Jesus of Nazareth." "I told you that
I am he,"
Jesus answered. "If you are looking for me, then let these men go."
VI) Is the Holy Spirit a person of a force?
Acts 5:3 Peter said that Ananias lied to
the Holy Spirit – you can’t lie to a force
Then Peter said,
"Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have
lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money
you received for the land?
Acts 13:2 The Holy Spirit spoke – forces
can’t speak
While they were
worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart
for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."
VII) Is the Holy Spirit God?
Acts 5:3-4 Peter said that Ananias lied to
the Holy Spirit (God)
Then Peter said,
"Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have
lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money
you received for the land? Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And
after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think
of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God."
Acts 13:2 The Holy Spirit spoke as God
While they were
worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for
me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."
