John Brown was from Deavertown, Ohio, a young man engaged with his broth er J. S. Brown, in the manufacture of fanning mills. They began housekeeping in the Brown family homestead, Mr. Brown's mothe r, a widow, having died a little more than a year before. In November 185 6, the family removed to Unionville, Ohio, and again in October, 185 9, to Malta, Ohio, moving into the house which for more that twenty-four y ears has been their home .
